A dithering boyfriend has been accused of not taking an interest in big decisions by the partner who subtly controls the direction of his life, it has emerged.
Joanna Shutit and Hugh Jargument got into an escalating tit-for-tat when Joanna asked Hugh’s opinion on the future of their relationship. Hugh, sensing the decision had already been made anyway, said he would be happy as long as she was happy.
This led to a heated debate in an airport terminal.
Joanna, 32, said: “Hugh is always so despondent and takes ages to do anything. It’s like he is constantly walking on egg shells, afraid to speak his mind.”
Hugh replied: “Well, if you want to know why I don’t offer my ——
“Quiet Hugh you had your chance to speak earlier.”
She continued: “The only reason I take charge of things is because if I left it to Hugh I might not get my own way all the time. But I love him so I just accept his flaws and try and get on with it.”
The couple has agreed to meet a counsellor once a month who will help them develop healthier ways of communicating in the hope they can stay together.
Joanna said: “The therapist I picked is really good and was very responsive to my suggestions regarding the time, format, length and content of the sessions.”
Hugh, looking anxious and despondent, said: “I just want her to be happy. So I’m going to put everything I can into this and hope that Joanna doesn’t feel like I am trying to ——”
“Come on now, Hugh, time to go.”
